Sight Word Bingo Abcya

Sight word bingo is so much fun you’ll have no problem getting your kiddos to practice their sight words. This game varies slightly from the bingo that we all know and love but it is just as exciting. This free printable includes a traditional set and a set for practicing their writing. Below are some ways you can play the game, but if you are ready to get started just scroll to the bottom and grab your free sight word bingo boards.

Pro-Tip: This game is meant to be played after the words have been introduced through reading and other practice games like these sight words worksheets. You can play this game before all the words have been introduced, but be ready to support them by telling them the words they haven’t studied yet.

Ways to Play Sight Word Bingo

Traditional Bingo Game

Each player chooses a board and a handful of chips (or whatever they will use to cover the squares). Place the sight word cards in a stack face down.

One player (or parent) calls out the sight word on the card. Every player looks for the word on the card and covers it if they find it.

They have to say the word before they can cover it. The first player to get four across, down or diagonal is the winner.

Blackout Sight Word Bingo

Each player chooses a board and a handful of chips (or whatever they will use to cover the squares). Place the sight word cards in a stack face down. One player (or parent) calls out the sight word on the card. Every player looks for the word on the card and covers it if they find it. They have to say the word before they can cover it. The first player to cover their entire board (blackout) is the winner.

Writing Sight Word Bingo

I love adding the element of writing whenever I can.

My theory is that if kids can read the word they can write the word. But, most kindergarteners need a lot of writing practice.

For this version of the game, you will need to laminate your game board or slip it into a sheet protector. You will also need a fine tip dry erase marker.

I like this one from Amazon because it has an attached eraser.

You play the game the same way except instead of covering the game board with a chip each player has to write the word.

Here are some items that pair well with these activities. You will use each of these items over and over during all my printable preschool activity packs.

  • Card stock (to print everything out on.)
  • Color Pencils, Crayons or Markers
  • Lead Pencils
  • Highlighter

For the alphabet letter box – you can find how to make an alphabet letter box here. We love using our All About Spelling Letter Magnets for this and absolutely LOVE the All About Spelling program. I am not homeschooling but I do use it after school. You can purchase the Letter Magnets separately or with the package. It is my favorite way to teach spelling and has really improved my kids spelling work.
Or you could use:

  • Wooden Letters (I used these in this post)
  • Learning Resources Lacing Letters Uppercase and Lowercase (Love these for so many different uses!)

Turn these worksheets into a book to give your child or students. I have included a set of colored copies as well as a set of black and white worksheets for those who would like to save on ink.

This Sight Words Printable pack contains over 90 pages of fun and learning.

Included in this sight words worksheets pdf pack are both color and black and white copies of a number of pages. The colourful pages are bright and cheery, though to save on printing and copying costs, a black and white version has been added. Children can add color to these if they desire.

First, in the pack is a checklist that contains all the words that are being learnt in this pack. I recommend laminating this list and using a dry-erase marker to tick off the sight words as your child learns them.

This is then followed by a Read, Build and Write the word page that goes great with the flashcards. There is a flashcard for each word that I recommend laminating for durability. I also printed out two copies of these pages, so that these cards could be used in memory and matching games.

Following the flashcards is the ‘Sight Word of the Day’ pages. There are two pages for each word. Practice learning the sight word using the following activities:

  • Color the sight word worksheet
  • Finding the sight word
  • Tracing the word
  • Highlighting the word
  • Cut and paste the sight word word
  • Write the word
  • Fill in the Missing Letter
  • Find the word in a sentence
  • Use the word in a sentence
  • Box the sight word
  • Clap the word to find out how many syllables are in each word.

Another fun way to practice sight words is with this Beach Sight Word Printable Pack.
